Tips for dog walking whilst experiencing back problems

June 26, 2017

HERE ARE THE TOP 4 TIPS TO AVOID BACK PAIN CAUSED BY YOUR  DOG

1. Use a shorter leash, one that is 4-6 feet in length.

2. Do not use a retractable leash until your dog is completely leash trained as this type of leash allows your dog too much freedom to pull, which could lead to back pain.

3. Your dog likely walks faster than you so keep the lead short, the shorter the lead, the more control you have and it will give you a chance to brace, and therefore reduce the chance for your dog to pull your shoulder, which often leads to back pain.

4. Get a properly fitting collar that won’t choke them or slip off.

Owning a dog is one of the most rewarding experiences as our pets truly are part of the family. So it is imperative that if you have back problems, they are well trained for both your sake. They might still be tormented by squirrels, but will learn to wait until they are off the leash for chasing them up the trees as any dog worth his/her bone should.
